Mahjong Queen in Action Again (So Soon!)

I thought today was going to another boring day. It was the usual routine like any other day and I was wondering what I could possibly update on my blog. Then, my other sister TFH aka Jaymee called, asked if I was going to be home and declared that she was coming over.

Surprise! TFG turned up as well. Ok, actually it wasn't such a surprise. Rather I kind of expected it. Since TFG is selling bah kwa at West Mall which is right beside the MRT station, it is only normal TFH would go over and drag her here as well.

Initially, it was the usual visit. I poured drinks for them, we chit-chat abit about everything under the sun then the golden word arose: MAHJONG.

TFG suggested we play mahjong because according to her, there's nothing to do at my place.

Of course TFH readily agreed to it because she had been itching to play mahjong for a couple of days. Mahjong Queen (aka me) certainly wouldn't decline a mahjong invitation. Problem was, there were only the three of us.

However, luckily for us, a solution presented itself: my brother-in-law. He was innocently playing DOTA in the living room while the three of us sat there, eyeing him to play mahjong with us. While we were desperate to play mahjong, we were very shy people who didn't know how to approach him. Therefore, we came up with a few ideas on how we could approach him:

  1. TFH to sit beside him and do the mahjong action - hopefully he'll get the hint and play mahjong with us
  2. SMS him and ask him if he wants to play mahjong with us
  3. Get his email address secretly, message him through MSN and ask if he'll play mahjong with us
  4. Just ask him
  5. Ask my father-in-law to stop cooking dinner and play mahjong with us (not too hopeful)

Finally, we decided to just ask my brother-in-law.

This brother-in-law is such a sweetheart, always ready to help most of the time. We were quick to set up the table and start our game. For the second time, I was on a winning streak (maybe it's a sign my mahjong skills are improving!!!). However, as the stakes were small (one tai = 20 cents), I only managed to win 8 bucks today. It could have been more, if I weren't so careless and forgot to take a tile when I 'gang' the 'fa cai' ('gang'=getting 4 tiles of the same pattern/design, whatever you call that). That was to be a spectacular win as well, had I remember to take a tile. Sigh.

We only played one port today (couldn't afford too much or we will be accused of leading my brother-in-law astray, asking him to play mahjong and devoid him of time to study. Erm...not that I remember ever seeing him study anyway, but you get what I mean). But one port is better than nothing.

Oh Mahjong, I love this game.
